Year 7 -

1.First, 15 minutes typing

Next on to the Formulate a Design Specification

2.Follow these instructions: Type Formulate a Design Specification (left justified, font size 16, bold, underlined)

3.Design Specification must include:
-3 interesting historical notes about your recipe or individual ingredients.
-how the recipe is important to your family
-why you like the recipe
-Create 3 more design specifications (let's brainstorm some possibilities)

4. Fill out the following questionnaire and return it to the teacher.

5. Then create a survey/questionnaire to evaluate your product/solution(recipe page). Remember to include a scale. For example, on a scale of 1 to 5 - 1 equals awful and 5 equals awesome!

- Make 1 question for each item in your design specification..

Finish Investigation, print it and hand it in today.

Learning objective: List design specifications for product solution and design a test to use in the final evaluation

Let's start with 15 minutes typing.

Now, back to the project at hand;-)

Do you have 3 interesting notes? If not, do that first. Remember to include in-text referencing.

Next,
How the recipe is important to your family? (What traditions surround this recipe? Who in your family is famous for this recipe?) Answer this question and type in your Investigation.

Why do you like the recipe? Try to explain why the combination of ingredients is pleasing to you. Answer this question and type in your Investigation.

Then onto the Formulate the Design Specification. . .

This is the part where we do research.

Please finish all your work during class or for homework;-)

History and Culture through Food

Directions
1) Select a favorite family recipe.
2) Copy down the recipe and bring it to school.
3) Open your Investigation (we began it last week)
4) Type Develop a Design Brief (left justified, font size 16, bold, underlined)
5) Type your recipe OR do a Google keyword search for your recipe - in English and copy and paste it into your Investigation

6) Open Internet Explorer and go to the Food Timeline Web page: http://www.foodtimeline.org/food2.html (remember to use in-text referencing)
7) Using the food timeline find as much information as you can about your recipe and the ingredients. For example if your recipe calls for mustard, look up mustard on the timeline.
8) Select three interesting historical notes about your recipe or its individual ingredients. Type these in your Investigation.
9) How the recipe is important to your family? (What traditions surround this recipe? Who in your family is famous for this recipe?) Answer this question and type in your Investigation.
10) Why do you like the recipe? Try to explain why the combination of ingredients is pleasing to you. Answer this question and type in your Investigation.

Now back to the IT (Information Technology) project. Let's fly through cyberspace and visit Term 3's Unit of Work - What's Cookin'? Publisher 2007

Above is an example of the product that you will create. (Click on the picture to enlarge it)

Now, let's begin! Follow these easy instructions:

- Open a new Word 2007 Document
- Type your name and tutor group in the upper left hand corner of the page (Remember to use Font size 12 for formal documents;-)
- Type INVESTIGATE (capitalized, centered) on the next line (Font size 16, Bold)

- Type Identify the Problem (left justified, font size 16, bold, underlined)

Now, write 1 or 2 paragraphs (Write in paragraphs, indent the first line of the paragraph)

Identify the problem
1-Restate (say again in your own words) the problem (from Unit of Work)

2-Explain and give details about the problem.

3-Say how you will solve the problem (Explain and give details)

4-Say how Health and Social Education connects to your project (Explain and give details, examples)
Learning Objectives: Students will be introduced to the Unit of Work and begin the Investigation. They write one paragraph explaining the problem and how they will solve the problem.

CREATE - Criterion D (6 points)

Create - using your Plan as a guide, create your Poster.

When creating - you must follow your plan. Then evaluate the plan. Did it work EXACTLY as you thought it would?

Follow these guidelines for maximum points (6):
-Use appropriate techniques and equipment
-Follow the plan and mention any changes made
-Your poster must follow the design specification and attractive


EVALUATE is the final stage of the Design Cycle - Let's go!

Evaluating is an important part of any project.
1) Show others your poster and let them answer the questionnaire you made in Investigate
2) Analyse the answers
3) Assess your own performance throughtout the process of creating the poster including your engagement in the project and your ability to meet deadlines

Learning Objective: The student will: follow plan to create poster, evaluate and critique plan.

Practice typing for 15 minutes!

Year 7 - It all starts with a Plan;-) Plan is the 3rd step in the Design Cycle. It is also Criterion C. Remember each Criterion is worth 6 points.

Today I would like you to create a timeline to complete your product/solution. Continue with the same document and type PLAN in big, bold letters.


First, make a list of all the resources that you will need to make your poster.

Next, make a list of all the steps that you will do to create your poster.

Include how much time each step will take.

It was that easy, Year 7.
Learning Objective: The student will: develop thinking skills, document strategies, forecast the time to be used to solve the problem.
